  • Darrell Foxworth (858) 320-8302

Brandon Torres, age 29, was arrested earlier today by an Escondido police officer following the robbery of the Chase Bank, 105 North Centre City Parkway, Escondido, California.

At approximately 10:00 a.m., an unknown man entered the Chase Bank, 105 North Centre City Parkway, Escondido, California, and presented a demand note for cash. The suspect also had in his possession a manila envelope which he indicated contained a bomb. After receiving a sum of money, the suspect fled the bank on foot.

A responding Escondido police officer observed an individual fitting the description of the bank robbery suspect boarding a Sprinter train. The officer followed the train until he observed the suspect get off the train at the Nordahl train stop. The officer approached the suspect and took him into custody without incident. The suspect was identified as Brandon Torres.

Torres was subsequently booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) and is expected to appear before a U.S. Magistrate Judge on or about Wednesday, April 6, 2011.

If anyone has information concerning today’s bank robbery, they are asked to contact the FBI at telephone number (858) 565-1255. This case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

An arrest itself is not evidence that the defendant committed crimes charged. The defendant is presumed innocent until the government meets its burden in court of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
