San Diego FBI Special Agent in Charge Keith Slotter announces the arrest of Drayton Christopher Maddox, age 24.

On Saturday, July 16, 2011, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Maddox was taken into custody by San Diego Police Officers at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, after being detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers. U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers detained Maddox as he was entering into the United States from Mexico.

On Monday, July 18, 2011, a complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court, Southern District, of California, charging Maddox with three counts of bank robbery. The complaint charges Maddox with robbing the following banks.

(1) California Coast Credit Union, 440 Beech Street, San Diego, California, on Tuesday, June 14, 2011.

(2) San Diego Metropolitan Credit Union, 320 B Street, San Diego, California, on Monday, June 27, 2011.

(3) Wells Fargo Bank, 1350 Fashion Valley Road, San Diego, California, on Saturday, July 9, 2011.

Maddox is currently being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center. This case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

An arrest itself is not evidence that the defendants committed the crimes charged. The defendants are presumed innocent until the government meets its burden in court of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
