United States Attorney Laura E. Duffy announced that today Andrea Gomez entered a guilty plea in federal court in San Diego to participating in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. The guilty plea was accepted by United States District Court Judge Janis L. Sammartino. Judge Sammartino set a sentencing date on January 28, 2011 at 9:00 a.m.

According to the plea agreement, in or about 2009, Andrea Gomez entered into an agreement with Gerald John Bretado, Robert Arthur Gomez and other individuals to knowingly distribute over 50 grams (actual) of methamphetamine. During today’s hearing, Andrea Gomez admitted under oath during her plea colloquy before Judge Sammartino, that she and codefendant, Robert A. Gomez began distributing thousands of dollars’ worth of methamphetamine to individuals in Mauldin, South Carolina soon after they relocated there from San Diego. The methamphetamine was sent to the Gomez’ from a third coconspirator who was living in San Diego.

According to court documents, from 2006 to 2008, Andrea Gomez worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a confidential informant and was a key witness in the “Keys to The City” investigation, which targeted various Hispanic street gang members with ties to the Mexican Mafia criminal organization. The Keys to The City investigation resulted in the indictment of over 40 individuals and was the subject of the Discovery Channel documentary “Inside The FBI.” Following her cooperation, and to ensure her and her family’s safety, the FBI moved Andrea Gomez and her family from San Diego to Mauldin, South Carolina.
