San Diego FBI Special Agent in Charge Keith Slotter, announces the arrest of Primitivo Martinez, age 50, of San Diego, California. Martinez was arrested pursuant to a federal arrest warrant charging him with the robbery of the Chase Bank, located at 8843 Villa La Jolla Drive, Suite 204, San Diego, California, on August 30, 2010.

Martinez was arrested on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at approximately, 5:00 p.m. near the intersection of College and University Avenue, by San Diego Police Officers.

According to the federal complaint filed in this matter, on Monday, August 30, 2010, at approximately 9:00 a.m., a lone Hispanic male robbed the Chase Bank, located at 8843 Villa La Jolla Drive, Suite 204, San Diego, California. The robber was greeted by an on-duty teller. The robber presented a note written on a folded business envelope that demanded cash. While the teller gathered cash to give to the robber, the robber appeared to gesture as if he had a weapon. After receiving a sum of money from the teller, the robber walked out of the bank.

On September 14, 2010, a San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy identified Martinez as the person possibly responsible for robbing the Chase Bank. Additional investigation, to include additional witness identification led to the filing of the federal bank robbery charges.

Martinez is currently being detained at the San Diego County Jail. This case is being prosecuted by the San Diego District Attorney’s Office.

An arrest itself is not evidence that the defendant committed the crimes charged. The defendant is presumed innocent until the government meets its burden in court of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
