Four Guilty Pleas Entered in Killeen Bank Robbery Investigation

U.S. Attorney’s Office September 16, 2011
  • Western District of Texas (210) 384-7100

United States Attorney John E. Murphy and FBI Special Agent in Charge Cory B. Nelson announced that four Killeen, Texas residents face federal prison sentences after pleading guilty to charges in connection with a Killeen bank robbery in May 2011.

Appearing before United States District Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr. yesterday, 24-year-old Bartholomew Ambrose McArthur, 25-year-old Darryl Anthony Moody, 19-year-old Levar Desmond Bridges, and 22-year-old Timothy Cornell Hughes pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery and one count of carrying a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence.

According to the factual basis filed in this case, McArthur, Bridges, and Hughes robbed the Central Bank at 404 East Veterans Memorial Blvd. at gunpoint on the morning of May 17, 2011, taking approximately $49,000. The bank robbers fled the scene in a vehicle being driven by Moody. Within 15 minutes of the robbery, information provided to law enforcement led authorities to a residence in Killeen where they discovered the vehicle used by the defendants. Authorities instructed the occupants of the house to exit the residence. Moody was the only defendant to do so voluntarily. A Killeen Police Department officer, working off-duty in the bank at the time of the robbery, identified Moody as a suspect. The Killeen Police Department SWAT unit, dispatched to the scene, successfully removed McArthur, Bridges, and Hughes from the residence and placed them into custody. During a subsequent search of the residence, authorities recovered the stolen cash as well as clothing worn by the defendants which matched a description provided by bank employees.

All four defendants remain in federal custody pending sentencing. Each defendant faces up to 20 years in federal prison on the bank robbery charge and up to 10 years in federal prison on the firearms charge. Sentencing is scheduled for 1:00 pm on November 22, 2011.

This case was investigated by agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation together with the Killeen Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Greg Gloff is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
