San Antonio Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for July 2008 Robbery of Amegy Bank

U.S. Attorney’s Office February 20, 2009
  • Western District of Texas (210) 384-7100

United States Attorney Johnny Sutton announced that in San Antonio, 51-year-old Donald Lewing Cain was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison for robbing the Amegy Bank located at 8525 Wurzbach on July 25, 2008.

On December 10, 2008, the San Antonio resident pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery. Cain admitted to providing a teller a note which read, “This is a robbery, no dye pack, no other devices. I have a gun.” The teller gave Cain $2,840 cash from her drawer. San Antonio police officers apprehended Cain a few minutes after the robbery at the corner of IH-10 and West Avenue and recovered all of the stolen money as well as the note.

Because Cain was under supervised release for a 1988 bank robbery conviction at the time he committed this offense, United States District Judge Fred Biery revoked his supervised release and ordered that he serve an additional 12 months’ imprisonment giving him a total prison term of 163 months. In addition, Judge Biery ordered that Cain be placed under supervised release for a period of three years after completing his prison term.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation together with the San Antonio Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney David Counts prosecuted this case on behalf of the Government.
