Federal Jury Convicts Two Army Soldiers in Murder Plot at Fort Hood

U.S. Attorney’s Office February 26, 2009
  • Western District of Texas (210) 384-7100

United States Attorney Johnny Sutton announced that a federal jury in Waco this afternoon returned a guilty verdict against two U.S. Army soldiers for their roles in a murder plot at Fort Hood.

The jury found 22-year-old William Foster and 22-year-old Adam R. Watson guilty of conspiracy to commit murder. As a result, both Foster and Watson face up to life in federal prison. Sentencing is scheduled for May 7, 2009 .

After two and a half days of testimony followed by a day of deliberation, the jury found that from July 26, 2008 , until August 29, 2008 , Foster and Watson conspired with Watson’s wife, Chantell, to intentionally kill Foster’s wife, Kailey Foster, in exchange for $75,000.

Testimony revealed that during the time of the conspiracy, William Foster and Adam Watson were active duty members of the U.S. Army serving in Iraq . Believing that his wife was having affairs with other men while he was overseas, William Foster solicited the Watsons to kill his wife. Testimony also revealed that in June 2008, Foster removed his wife from a $100,000 insurance policy through Serviceman Group Life Insurance (SGLI) but added her back on the policy a month later so that he could use the proceeds from the policy to pay the Watsons $75,000.

Chantell Watson faces up to life in federal prison after pleading guilty last December to conspiracy to commit murder for hire. She is scheduled to be sentenced on April 22, 2009 . All three defendants are currently being held in federal custody without bond.

This case was investigated by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigative Division and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Mark Frazier and Greg Gloff together with Special Assistant United States Attorney Neil Stephenson are prosecuting this case on behalf of the Government.
