Kootenai Tribe Member Indicted

U.S. Attorney's Office May 25, 2011
  • District of Idaho (208) 334-1211

Twyla Dawn Basil, 32, was arraigned today in U.S. District Court in Coeur d'Alene for misprision of a felony, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced. Basil was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 17.

The indictment alleges that Basil concealed from authorities her knowledge of a burglary that had occurred on or around December 23, 2010, on the Kootenai Indian Reservation.

A jury trial is set for July 12, 2011, before U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge at the U.S. Courthouse in Coeur d'Alene.

The case was investigated by the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

An indictment is a means of charging a person with criminal activity. It is not evidence. The person is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
