Hiram Evans Pleads Guilty in U.S. Federal Court

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that during a federal court session in Great Falls, on October 24, 2011, before U.S. District Judge Sam E. Haddon, HIRAM EVANS, a 28-year-old resident of Heart Butte, pled guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury. Sentencing has been set for January 23, 2012. He is currently detained.
In an Offer of Proof filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura B. Weiss, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:
On January 22, 2011, several individuals were drinking alcohol at a home in Heart Butte, located within the exterior boundaries of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. The victim went to a back room to sleep. The victim woke to EVANS punching him in the head. A wrestle ensued, during which another individual became involved, knocking the victim to the ground.
The victim attempted to leave the house but was repeatedly kicked and beaten by EVANS and another individual. The victim was taken to the emergency room, but his injuries were so severe that he had to be air lifted to Kalispell.
EVANS faces possible penalties of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years’ supervised release.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
