Fort Hall Man Sentenced for Making False Statement

POCATELLO—Heath Dixey, 35, of Fort Hall, Idaho, was sentenced to six months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for making a false statement to Fort Hall police, announced U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson. Dixey was sentenced yesterday in federal court by Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill. Dixey pleaded guilty to the charge on May 25, 2011.
According to the plea agreement, on July 28, 2010, Dixey told Fort Hall Police Detective Joe Roberts that he had pushed a man out of his vehicle after getting angry with him. Based on that information, the U.S. Attorney’s Office charged Dixey with assault resulting in serious bodily injury. Dixey later admitted to leaving his 2-year-old child in the vehicle with the motor running. The child put the vehicle in gear causing it to move rapidly and strike the victim, resulting in the man’s injuries. Dixey did not want anyone to know he had left his child unattended in the vehicle with the motor running.
The case was investigated by the Fort Hall Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
