De Smet Woman Pleads Guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter

Andrea George, 19, of De Smet, Idaho, pleaded guilty today in federal court in Coeur d’Alene to involuntary manslaughter, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced.
According to the indictment, on April 19, 2010, George was speeding in her Honda Civic on De Smet Road when she struck and killed a pedestrian, Patrick Gourneau, who was standing in the roadway. George was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The charge of involuntary manslaughter carries a maximum punishment of up to eight years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for September 7, 2011, before U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge in Coeur d’Alene.
The case was investigated by the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police, the Idaho State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
