William August Brand Found Guilty in U.S. Federal Court

The United States Attorney's Office announced that on July 12, 2010, in Missoula, after a federal district court trial before U.S. District Judge Donald W. Molloy, WILLIAM AUGUST BRAND, a 35-year-old resident of Butte, was found guilty of possession of child pornography. Sentencing is set for October 8, 2010. He is currently detained.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Cyndee L. Peterson prosecuted the case for the United States.

BRAND faces possible penalties of a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and could be sentenced to 20 years, a $250,000 fine and lifetime supervision .

The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation.
