Eric Leach/FBI Regional Program Manager, Language Services Section:

We’re inviting all foreign language speakers to an FBI linguist job fair on August 9th, that’s Thursday, August 9th, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Just come anytime between 8 and 4, it’ll take about an hour, and we are looking for people who speak a variety of languages, but right now our most important languages will be Somali, Hebrew, Farsi, and Mandarin Chinese.

Marina/FBI Language Analyst:

I love it, it’s the best job I ever had. For me, being a linguist is perfect because one day I interpret, the other day I translate a document, the other day I do…you know … helping with a polygraph interview so all kinds of different activities.

Hector/FBI Language Analyst:

This job has given me things beyond any dreams I may have had in my life, both in Argentina or in the United States. But, um, one of the things that I get to do is to travel and meet so many people.

Anna/FBI Contract Linguist:

No two cases are ever the same and so it’s like, there’s new things that you never know what’s going to come up next…and I like that.

Marina:

We are part of the FBI team. We are not just people who speak at least two languages. We also help to help the mission of the FBI.

Leach:

The positions we’re hiring for are contract linguist positions. Because they’re contract positions, they don’t come with benefits, but the pay is excellent. Contract linguists make between 29-dollars an hour and 41-dollars an hour, depending on the language and how they perform on the language test.

The FBI Linguist Job Fair will be on the 7th floor, here at our building in downtown Salt Lake. Its 257 East and 200 South in Salt Lake, just follow the signs to the 7th floor. Now the total process will include a couple briefings and then an interview. But beginning to end we don’t anticipate it will be much longer than an hour. So come anytime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 9th, and we hope to see you there.
