Fugitive Pair Returned to Kern County to Face Charges

Friday, Alberto Faragia Garcia, 31, and Carla Mariela Torres Garcia, 30, who were wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, were extradited to Kern County, California to face charges filed by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.

A felony arrest warrant was issued by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office for the couple’s arrest for their alleged involvement in the death of a child on July 18, 2010. The Bakersfield Police Department requested FBI assistance during the initial investigation and indicated the Garcias may have fled to Mexico. After locating the pair in Mexico, local Mexican authorities arrested the Garcias on February 10, 2012. The couple has been in the custody of Mexican authorities while extradition proceedings continued.
