Modesto Man Indicted for Bank Robberies in Modesto and Stockton

U.S. Attorney’s Office July 25, 2013
  • Eastern District of California (916) 554-2700

SACRAMENTO, CA—A federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment today charging Troy Foster Mitchell, 47, of Modesto, with bank robbery, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

The indictment alleges that Mitchell robbed the Valley First Credit Union in Modesto on May 14, 2013, and the Bank of the West in Stockton on May 31, 2013.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Modesto Police Department, and the Stockton Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Sherry D. Hartel Haus is prosecuting the case.

If convicted, Mitchell faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release on each count. Any sentence, however, would be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory sentencing factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables. The charges are only allegations; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
