Chico Man Indicted for Bank Robberies in Tehama and Colusa Counties

U.S. Attorney’s Office April 14, 2011
  • Eastern District of California (916) 554-2700

SACRAMENTO, CA—United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced today that a federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment charging Michael Brian Taylor, 54, of Chico, with bank robbery for robbing an Umpqua Bank in Los Molinos on March 2, 2011, and a U.S. Bank in Colusa on March 8, 2011.

This case is the product of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office, the Colusa Police Department, and the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Stegman is prosecuting the case.

The maximum statutory penalty for bank robbery is 20 years’ imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. However, the actual sentence will be dictated by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of factors, and will be imposed at the discretion of the court.

The charges are only allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
