Two Indicted for Transporting Women from Colorado to California for Prostitution

U.S. Attorney’s Office January 20, 2011
  • Eastern District of California (916) 554-2700

FRESNO, CA—United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that a federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment today against Damion Ramon Williams, 39, of Los Angeles, and Leticia Teresa Joyner, 22, of Fresno, for charges relating to the interstate transportation of three women in order for them to engage in prostitution.

The indictment alleges that on December 6, 2010, Williams persuaded three individuals to travel from Colorado to California to engage in prostitution. On December 9, 2010, Williams and Joyner actually transported those three individuals interstate with the intent that they engage in prostitution.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Fresno Police Department, and the Merced Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Elana Landau is prosecuting the case.

If convicted of the charges, Williams faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the first count, and he and Joyner each face a maximum of 10 years in prison plus a $250,000 fine for the second count. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.

The charges are only allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
