California State Probationer Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery

SACRAMENTO, CA—United States Attorney Lawrence G. Brown announced today that MICHAEL ANDREW WILLIAMS, 28, of Sacramento, pleaded guilty this morning to a single count of bank robbery before United States District Court Judge Frank C. Damrell Jr.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Sacramento Violent Crimes Task Force, which includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Rodriguez, who is prosecuting the case, WILLIAMS pleaded guilty to robbing the U.S. Bank located at 10635 Folsom Boulevard in Sacramento on December 24, 2008. He presented a demand note to the teller that advised he had a gun. He then fled the bank on foot with approximately $1,174. He also admitted that, on January 21, 2009, he returned to the same U.S. Bank branch and robbed it a second time. WILLIAMS again presented a note threatening to use a gun. He then escaped on foot with approximately $501 in cash. He has agreed to pay restitution for both bank robberies.

At the time of the robberies, WILLIAMS was on probation for California state drug and theft offenses. He is currently in federal custody pending sentencing.

WILLIAMS is scheduled to be sentenced on October 13, 2009. He faces up to 20 years in federal prison. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables and any applicable statutory sentencing factors.
