Last Two Members of Drug Conspiracy Sentenced
In all, Members of the Organization will Serve More Than 500 Months in Federal Prison

United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley announced today that Charlottesville residents Travis McKinsley Barnett and Penny Alisha Miles, members of a marijuana distribution conspiracy indicted in February 2008, were sentenced yesterday in the United States District Court in Charlottesville.

Barnett and Miles participated in the distribution of more than 3,000 Kilos of marijuana throughout the Western District of Virginia. Yesterday in District Court, Miles was sentenced to time already served. Travis Barnett was ordered to serve 37 months in prison.

“Yesterday’s proceedings bring closure to an investigation that has served as a model for how effectively federal, state and local law enforcement agencies can work together for the common good of the community,” United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley said today. “I am grateful to all the men and women of each agency involved in bringing this dangerous drug organization to justice.”

Earlier this month, Reynold George Samuels Jr., age 40, also of Charlottesville, the admitted head of the organization, was sentenced to 292 months of Federal incarceration.

Previously sentenced for their roles in the conspiracy were: Jevon Barnett, age 22, sentenced to 12 months of Federal incarceration; Carl Anthony Samuels, age 37, sentenced to 57 months’ incarceration; Reginald Vaughn Bly, age 37, sentenced to 40 months’ incarceration; Joe Davis Williams, age 29, sentenced to 12 months and one day of incarceration; Andre Alexander Williams, sentenced to 68 months’ incarceration.

Samuels admitted that he and the others were part of a drug distribution organization that was responsible for distributing more than 3,000 kilos of marijuana in Charlottesville, and elsewhere.

The investigation of this case was conducted by the Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Ronald Huber is prosecuting the case for the United States.
