Mr. Schiff: Hi, welcome to "FBI 100, A Closer Look." I'm Neal Schiff of the Bureau's Office of Public Affairs along with FBI Historian Dr. John Fox. As we look at the first 99 years of the FBI, John, a couple of notable things happened in the early part of November. Let’s look at 1980?

Dr. Fox: "Well Neal, there had been a series of killings of mostly young males in Atlanta, Georgia. In November of 1980 the Attorney General asked the FBI to offer whatever assistance we could. We provided manpower; we provided technical lab assistance and even forensic profiling."

Mr. Schiff: John, ultimately there was an arrest and conviction?

Dr. Fox: "In June of 1981 following extensive investigations by Georgia and other authorities and the FBI, Wayne Williams was arrested and convicted for at least two of the murders."

Mr. Schiff: And another important day was November 2, 1987?

Dr. Fox: "That was the day William Sessions was sworn in. A former federal judge, Director Sessions oversaw us through the end of the Cold War and a shift to major violent crime as a significant priority for the Bureau."

Mr. Schiff: Thanks John. From the FBI's Public Affairs office, along with Bureau Historian Dr. John Fox, I'm Neal Schiff with "FBI 100, A Closer Look."
