DNA Evidence

What Every Law Enforcement Officer Should Know About DNA Evidence provides interactive training that covers in-depth information about the identification, preservation, and collection of DNA evidence at a crime scene. Information addressed in this interactive training program is delivered in two modules: the beginning-level module, which focuses on issues that arise for the first-responding law enforcement officer, and the advanced-level module, which delivers more in-depth information for the investigating officer or evidence technician. Recommended practices covered in this tutorial module may not apply to all situations or crime scenes, and officers should emply all local department or agency procedures or applicable laws that govern the use, collection, and processing of DNA evidence. The module is a product of the National Commission on the Future of DNA Evidence, developed by the Commission’s Crime Scene Investigation Working Group. To order copies of the beginningor advanced-level module, please call the National Criminal Justice Reference Service at 800-851-3420 or access its Web site at http://www.ncjrs.org.
