David A. Cardona Named Special Agent In Charge,
New York Field Office, Criminal Division
Washington,
D.C. - FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III has appointed
David A. Cardona, a 20 year FBI veteran, to be Special Agent
in Charge of the FBI's New York Field Office, Criminal Division.
In this position, Mr. Cardona will have oversight and command
of all criminal investigations conducted within the New
York Field Division, which comprises the five boroughs,
Long Island, and the six northern counties. He will serve
under the direction of Mark J. Mershon, Assistant Director
in Charge.
Mr.
Cardona entered on duty with the FBI as a special agent
in September 1986. After completing New Agents' Training,
he was assigned to the Miami Division. In August 1996, he
was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent of a squad in
the Miami Division which addressed money laundering and
South American cocaine cartels.
In
August 2000, he joined the Inspection Division where he
served as an Assistant Inspector-Team Leader in the Office
of Inspections. In February 2002, Mr. Cardona was promoted
to Chief of the Inspection Management Unit, Inspections
Division, where he oversaw the scheduling, preparation,
and logistical planning of inspections for all field divisions,
legal attaché offices and FBI Headquarters. In May
2003, Mr. Cardona was promoted to Assistant Special Agent
in Charge of the Miami Division. During the course of this
assignment, Mr. Cardona was responsible for the white collar
crime, cyber crime, as well as the civil rights programs.
Later he became responsible for the Miami Division's Counterterrorism
Program. In June 2005, Mr. Cardona was promoted to his most
recent position of Section Chief of the Security Division,
where he was responsible in overseeing all background investigations
conducted by the FBI.
Upon
graduation from Case Western Reserve University, Mr. Cardona
began his professional career as a staff accountant for
the New York State Department of Social Services. He later
entered the military and served as a Naval Intelligence
Officer. Finally, he served for four years as a Special
Agent in the U.S. Naval Investigative Service where he was
assigned to both domestic and international posts.
