FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III, today announced the appointment of Louis M. Reigel, III, as the deputy chief financial officer for the FBI. As Deputy Assistant Director, Finance Division, Mr. Reigel will be the second-ranking manager in the Finance Division, the division responsible for the overall coordination and administration of the FBI's budgetary and fiscal matters.

Mr. Reigel, an accountant, entered on duty as a support employee with the FBI in 1973. In 1980, he was appointed as Special Agent and has since served in the Tampa, Mobile, Detroit, and Los Angeles field offices. In May 1992, Mr. Reigel was transferred to FBI Headquarters where he served as a supervisor in the Asset Seizure/Money Laundering Unit-Criminal Investigative Division.

While in Los Angeles, Mr. Reigel supervised a Money Laundering and Drug Trafficking Organization squad and in 1998 was promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Los Angeles field office where he was responsible for the Organized Crime, Drug, and Violent Crime programs. Most recently, Mr. Reigel has served as the Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Los Angeles Division's National Security and White Collar Crime programs.
