FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III, today announced that Mark J. Mershon was appointed as Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s San Francisco Field Office.

Director Mueller stated “Mr. Mershon brings 27 years of experience as an FBI Agent, supervisor and manager in a wide range of investigative and administrative programs -- and a track record of success.”

Mr. Mershon has served as an investigator and program manager in white collar crime investigations, including both the fraud and corruption areas. He has supervised organized crime, violent crime and drug matters. While assigned as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of the San Francisco Field Office, he supervised the investigation of the kidnap and murder of Polly Klaas. Mr. Mershon was also instrumental in establishing the high tech squad in the San Jose resident agency. He has served as the FBI’s Chief Inspector, where he oversaw the inspection process over FBI field offices, Headquarters divisions, and overseas Legal Attache offices. Currently, Mr. Mershon heads FBI operations in Colorado and Wyoming.
