Suspect Uses Rifle in Robbery of Umpqua Bank Branch in Portland

FBI Portland December 06, 2012
  • Beth Anne Steele (503) 460-8099

A man walked into the Umpqua Bank Branch located at 7365 SW Barnes Road in Portland at about 10:30 a.m. on December 6 while carrying what appeared to be some kind of rifle. He threatened the three employees in the bank, pointing the weapon at them and ordering them to the ground. He left the bank a few minutes later in a dark, four-door car with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Witnesses say he was:

  • Height: 5’9”-5’10”
  • Weight: Medium build
  • Clothing: Wearing a dark-colored hooded-sweatshirt, light-colored jeans, and some kind of white mask over his head. He was also wearing goggles.

This robbery and the suspect description is similar to a robbery at the Chase Bank branch located across the street at 7515 SW Barnes Road in Portland, on October 11, 2012. In this first robbery, there was no weapon seen, although the robber implied that he had one.

FBI agents and Washington County sheriff’s deputies are working to determine whether the two robberies are indeed connected.

Anyone with information on these robberies or the person responsible is asked to call the FBI at (503) 224-4181.
