U.S. Attorney's Office April 20, 2011
  • District of Oregon (503) 727-1000

EUGENE, OR—On April 19, 2011, Dean John Perri, 41, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael R. Hogan to 188 months in federal prison after being convicted of two bank robberies and violating his supervised release in two separate cases. Perri was sentenced to 151 months in federal custody for each of the bank robberies and to 37 months in custody for the supervised release violations, to be served consecutively. Upon his release, Perri will be required to pay restitution in the amount of $5,370.

On July 3, 2009, Perri robbed the Wells Fargo Bank in Coos Bay, Oregon. Perri presented a demand note and claimed that he had a gun, obtaining $1,520. On July 6, 2009, Perri robbed the Wells Fargo bank in Woodburn, Oregon. Perri presented a demand note and displayed what appeared to be a pistol, obtaining $3,850. Perri was identified and located in Springfield, Oregon, where he was arrested on July 9, 2009. A search of his motel room located a BB gun that resembled a pistol and clothes consistent with those worn during the robberies. Perri was arrested and later indicted in federal court for both bank robberies.

At the time of the bank robberies, Perri was on supervised release on two prior federal convictions, riot at a federal penal facility and felon in possession of a firearm. Perri also has prior convictions for unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, assault on a public safety officer, menacing, and theft.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Coos Bay Police Department, the Woodburn Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey S. Sweet.
