Reward Offered in “Strolling Hat Bandit” Case

FBI Portland October 18, 2010
  • Beth Anne Steele (503) 460-8099

The Oregon Financial Institutions Security Taskforce (FIST) and the FBI are offering a combined reward of up to $6,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the woman believed to be responsible for three bank robberies in the Eugene area over a three-week period. Investigators have nick-named her the “Strolling Hat Bandit" because she has worn a hat in each robbery. The FBI and the Eugene Police Department are working this case jointly.

In each case, the woman walked into the bank, approached a teller, demanded cash and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. The robberies include:

  • 8/23/10 – Pacific Cascade Bank, 1075 Oak St., Eugene
  • 8/30/10 – Pacific Continental Bank, 1450 High Street, Eugene
  • 9/14/10 – US Bank, 1675 W. 18th Ave., Eugene

In each case, witnesses have given the same general description of the robber:

  • Race: White
  • Age: Late teens to early 20’s
  • Height: 5’2” – 5’6”
  • Weight/Build: 110-125 pounds/thin
  • Hair: Shoulder-length, brown and/or dyed maroon

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI in Eugene at (541) 343-5222 during normal business hours; the FBI in Portland at (503) 224-4181 24 hours a day; or the Eugene Police Department at (541) 682-8888.
