Albany Man Receives 10-Year Sentence for Burning Pregnancy Alternatives Center

U.S. Attorney’s Office April 20, 2010
  • District of Oregon (503) 727-1000

EUGENE, OR—David Allen Rios, 31, of Albany, Oregon, was sentenced today by U.S. District Court Judge Michael R. Hogan to 10 years in prison and three years of supervised release. Rios had earlier entered a guilty plea to committing arson at the Pregnancy Alternatives Center in Lebanon, Oregon.

After committing a September 10, 2008 pre-dawn burglary at the center, Rios decided to return to the building where he ignited multiple fires to conceal his crime. The suppression of the fire required the coordinated efforts of fire departments from Lebanon, Albany, Sweet Home, and Philomath. The loss to the building and its contents amounted to approximately $500,000.

A month-long, multi-agency investigation by the ATF, FBI, Oregon State Police, and Lebanon Police Department culminated in the arrest of Rios.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Engdall.
