The Portland Division of the FBI is recruiting computer scientists, whose primary responsibility will be to provide professional expertise to support FBI investigative and intelligence programs. The position will be at the GS-7 through GS-12 level. The following duties may be required:

  • Computer system and network procurement, installation, administration, and security
  • Developing and implementing existing and custom cyber tools and methods for use in the identification, preservation, and analysis of digital evidence
  • Providing technical assistance in conducting interviews, searches and other investigative activity
  • Providing courtroom testimony
  • Conducting liaison and outreach
  • Drafting documents related to technical and other professional matters
  • Remaining current with new advances in cyber and technology topics and provide guidance on such matters
  • Obtaining and providing technical and other professional training

Competitive applicants may include, but are not limited to, those with the following education/experience:

  • Computer forensics/investigations
  • Computer security
  • Internet-working (firewalls, gateways, routers, hubs, WANS, etc.)
  • Computer networking administration
  • Computer programming
  • Computer network architecture/design
  • Computer technical support
  • Operating system administration
  • Other high tech computer experience

Mandatory qualifications:

  • Applicant must be a United States citizen
  • Applicant must be able to obtain a top secret/SCI security clearance
  • Note: A bachelor’s degree in computer science or bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science is required. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions
