U.S. Attorney’s Office January 12, 2012
  • Southern District of West Virginia (304) 345-2200

BECKLEY, WV—Jeffrey Crain, 49, of Beaver, Raleigh County, West Virginia, pleaded guilty today in federal court before United States District Judge Irene C. Berger to making a false statement to a federal agent. Crain was employed by the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Beckley, when an employment-related drug test indicated that he had used cocaine. The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) subsequently conducted an investigation. On July 6, 2011, Crain provided an affidavit to a BOP investigator in which he stated that he had never knowingly used cocaine. Following further investigation, Crain admitted that he had, in fact, knowingly used cocaine before his drug test. Crain later resigned from his position as kitchen supervisor at the Beckley prison.

Crain faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on May 9, 2012.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney John File is in charge of the prosecution.
