Verona Man Charged with Assaulting FBI Agents, Using Guns During a Crime of Violence

PITTSBURGH, PA—A resident of Verona, Pa., has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of assaulting federal officers and violations of federal firearm laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
The two-count indictment named Frank Perez, Jr., 31.
According to the indictment, on Oct. 4, 2011, Perez forcibly assaulted, resisted, opposed, impeded, and interfered with special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, through the use of three firearms, while the agents were engaged in their official duties. In addition, the indictment charges that Perez used, carried and discharged the firearms in connection with that crime of violence.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of not less than 10 years and up to life in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
