Man Faces Federal Tax Charges

PITTSBURGH—Alfredo Sararo, III, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on four counts of filing false income tax returns, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

According to the indictment presented to the court, Sararo filed false federal income tax returns and false federal amended income tax returns for the calendar years 2004 and 2005 in that he failed to accurately report his income.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 12 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.

An indictment or information is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
