Washington, Pennsylvania Man Pleads Guilty to Robbing Shaler Bank

PITTSBURGH—A resident of Washington, Pennsylvania pleaded guilty on Jan. 24, 2011, in federal court to one count of bank robbery, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

Eric May, 34, pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti.

In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that on Oct. 2, 2010, May robbed the Eureka Bank located at 1626 Babcock Boulevard, Pittsburgh, Pa. As a result of the robbery, May obtained $670 in U.S. currency.

Judge Conti scheduled sentencing for May 20, 2011. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense(s) and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Almon S. Burke, Jr. is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Shaler Township Police Department conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Eric May.
