Judge Sentences Bank Robber to Seven Years in Prison

PITTSBURGH—A resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was sentenced in federal court on Jan. 6, 2011, to 84 months in prison on his conviction of bank robbery, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.
United States District Judge David S. Cercone imposed the sentence on Lonnie Ball, 43.
According to information presented to the court, on April 24, 2009, Ball robbed the Citizens Bank located at 603 Stanwix Street in Pittsburgh of $2,097.00, and on April 27, 2009, Ball robbed the Fidelity Bank located at 683 Lincoln Avenue in Pittsburgh of $1,512.00. Ball confessed to both robberies. In each robbery he handed the teller a note that said that he would shoot to kill.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Cercone stated that Ball had an alcohol addiction, which contributed to his criminal conduct, and that the sentence should reflect the opportunity for Ball to receive the proper treatment to enable him to become a more productive member of society.
Assistant United States Attorney Almon S. Burke, Jr. prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Lonnie Ball.
