Duquesne Drug Dealer Sentenced to Five Years In Prison

PITTSBURGH, PA—A resident of Duquesne, Pennsylvania has been sentenced in federal court to 60 months in prison and four years’ supervised release on his conviction of violating federal narcotic laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

Senior United States District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose imposed the sentence yesterday on Melvin Leonard Walker, Jr., 28, after calling drug trafficking the “ruination of society.”

According to information presented to the court, from in or around February, 2010, and continuing thereafter to on or about Oct. 7, 2010, Walker conspired to possess with intent to distribute and distributed more than 500 grams but less than two kilograms of cocaine and over 100 grams of crack cocaine.

Assistant United States Attorney Amy L. Johnston prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.

U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, the McKeesport Police Department, the Clairton Police Department, the Allegheny County Housing Authority Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Allegheny County Police Department, and the Munhall Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Walker.
