New Castle Man Charged with Lying to a Grand Jury

PITTSBURGH—A resident of New Castle, Pa., has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of making false declarations before a grand jury, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

The three-count indictment named Michael Trover, 42, as the sole defendant.

According to the indictment, Trover provided false testimony to the grand jury on or about April 30, 2008, regarding whether he had made payments to anyone in connection with work that he did for Lawrence County and Shenango Township.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of five years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both at each count. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Department of Housing and Urban Development - Office of General Inspector, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.

An indictment or information is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
