Johnstown Resident Pleads Guilty to Distributing Crack Cocaine

Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, June 21, 2010, that Courtney D. Martin, a resident of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court in Johnstown to charges of distributing cocaine base, commonly known as "crack."
Martin, age 19, of pleaded guilty to two counts before United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson.
In connection with the guilty plea, Assistant United States Attorney John J. Valkovci, Jr., advised the court that on December 16, 2008, Martin distributed less than five grams of cocaine base. In addition, on January 12, 2009, he distributed five grams or more of cocaine base.
Judge Gibson scheduled sentencing for October 21, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. The law provides for a total sentence of 60 years in prison, a fine of $3,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (Laurel Highlands Resident Agency) and the Cambria County Drug Task Force conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Martin.
