Monroeville Men Plead Guilty to Robbing S&T Bank on Route 286

Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, May 11, 2010, that Kevin Ian Davis and Timothy Michael Smith, both residents of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of bank robbery.

Davis, age 28, and Smith, age 28, pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge Gary L. Lancaster.

In connection with the guilty plea, Assistant United States Attorney Almon S. Burke, Jr. advised the court that on July 24, 2009, Davis and Smith robbed the S&T Bank on Route 286. Davis entered the bank and ordered the tellers onto the floor as he took money from the cash drawers while Smith waited outside the bank in the getaway car. After a brief foot chase as Davis exited the bank holding the stolen cash, Police and a K‑9 unit apprehended Davis. Smith was simultaneously arrested. Both Davis and Smith confessed to being involved with the other in the bank robbery. As a result of the robbery, Davis and Smith obtained a total amount of $11,214.00.

Judge Lancaster scheduled sentencing for September 17, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. with respect to Smith and 10:00 a.m. with respect to Davis. The law provides for a total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Plum Police Department conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Davis and Smith.
