Pittsburgh Man Pleads Guilty to Conspiring to Distribute Heroin

U.S. Attorney’s Office January 13, 2010
  • Western District of Pennsylvania

Acting United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar announced today, January 13, 2010, that Curtis Lawrence Burton, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court in Pittsburgh to a violation of the federal drug laws.

Burton, age 27, pleaded guilty to one count before Senior United States District Judge Gustave Diamond.

In connection with the guilty plea, Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti advised the court that from in or around April 2007, and continuing until in or around February 2008, in the Western District of Pennsylvania and elsewhere, Burton conspired with others to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute more than 20 grams but less than 40 grams of heroin, a Schedule I controlled substance.

Judge Diamond scheduled sentencing for May 13, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. The law provides for a total sentence of not more than 30 years in prison, a fine of $2,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the West Mifflin Police Department conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Curtis Burton.
