Drug Dealer Sentenced to More Than 13 Years in Prison for Repeat Offenses

U.S. Attorney’s Office October 06, 2009
  • Western District of Pennsylvania

United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, October 6, 2009, that Samuel Tirado, a resident of Erie, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Erie to 160 months in jail on his conviction of violating federal drug laws.

Senior United States District Judge Maurice B. Cohill, Jr. imposed the sentence on Tirado, age 29.

According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Marshall J. Piccinini, Tirado distributed more than fifty grams of crack cocaine in February.

While Tirado was released on bond awaiting trial on the initial charge, Tirado continued to distribute drugs, and on three occasions in April 2009, Tirado distributed more than 20 grams of crack cocaine.

Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Cohill stated the fact that Tirado committed additional drug dealing offenses while on bond on his first drug dealing charge, was an aggravating factor calling for a lengthier sentence.

Ms. Buchanan commended the EAGLE task force, which is comprised of members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Erie Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Tirado.
