Slippery Rock Man Admits Robbing Three Butler County Banks

U.S. Attorney’s Office July 12, 2009
  • Western District of Pennsylvania

United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today, July 10, 2009, that Walter Cody Tribble, a resident of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of committing armed bank robberies in violation of federal law.

Tribble, age 34, pleaded guilty on July 9, 2009, to three counts before Senior United States District Judge Alan N. Bloch.

In connection with the guilty plea, Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller advised the court that on December 22 and 31, 2008, and January 5, 2009, Tribble took over $5,000.00 from three FDIC-insured banks in Butler County, Pennsylvania. He did so through force, violence, and intimidation and through the use of a dangerous weapon.

Judge Bloch scheduled sentencing for January 7, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. The law provides for a total sentence of not more than 75 years in prison, a fine of not more than $750,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Butler City Police Department conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Tribble.
