Man Gets 51 Months in Prison for Possessing Child Pornography

United States Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan announced today that Gary Lee Myers, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh to 51 months’ in prison for violating federal child pornography laws.

United States District Judge Gary L. Lancaster imposed the sentence on Myers, age 37.

According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller, on February 28, 2008, Myers possessed image and video computer graphic files containing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Ms. Buchanan commended the Pennsylvania State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Pittsburgh High Tech Crimes Task Force for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Myers.

This case was the product of Project Safe Childhood. Launched in February 2006, Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section of the Department of Justice, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims.
