  • District of Arizona (602) 514-7500

PHOENIX—Jercelo Evan “Slim” Jim, 19, of Round Rock, Arizona, who is a member of the Navajo Nation, was sentenced on August 2, 2011, by U.S. District Judge Paul G. Rosenblatt to 51 months in federal prison for holding up the Round Rock Trading Post in July 2010.

Jim pleaded guilty to armed robbery after he and two co-defendants entered the Round Rock Trading Post wielding a rifle. One co-defendant pointed the rifle at the store owner, who was working behind the counter. Jim and the others demanded cash and cigarettes. After taking money and some goods from the store, all three fled. Jim and another co-defendant left on horseback. Jim abandoned the other two men and stashed the rifle, but tribal police soon caught up with all three defendants and recovered the rifle.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Navajo Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Jennifer E. Green, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
