Fort Defiance Man Sentenced to 4.5 Years in Prison for Sexual Abuse

PHOENIX—Marshall Joe, 31, of Fort Defiance, Ariz. was sentenced last week by U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow to 56 months in federal prison followed by eight years of supervised release. Joe pleaded guilty on March 23, 2010, to sexually abusing the victim while she was sleeping. The sexual abuse occurred on June 29, 2009, on the Navajo Nation Indian Reservation.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Navajo Nation Police Department, the Navajo Nation Department of Criminal Investigations, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Gallup, Ariz. The prosecution was handled by Heather H. Belt, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
