Springbrook Township Man Found Guilty of Receiving, Distributing, and Possessing Child Pornography

U.S. Attorney’s Office April 07, 2011
  • Middle District of Pennsylvania (717) 221-4482

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that on Tuesday, a federal jury returned verdicts of guilty against Greg Doyle, age 28 of Springbrook Township, Moscow, for charges involving the receipt, distribution, and possession of child pornography.

During the four-day trial before United States District Court Judge Richard P. Conaboy, the government presented evidence related to the more than 340 child pornography videos found in Doyle’s possession.

United States Attorney Peter J. Smith stated that the federal jury deliberated for about 45 minutes before returning guilty verdicts against Greg Doyle. The indictment charging Doyle with the offenses stemmed from an investigation by the FBI, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office. Doyle faces a mandatory five-year prison sentence with a maximum term of 20 years.

Smith noted that this case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006, by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Olshefski prosecuted the case.
