Philadelphia Man Charged in Robberies

Hakeem Paris was charged today by indictment in connection with two Hobbs Act robberies, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. The indictment charges Paris with one count of conspiracy to commit robbery which interfered with interstate commerce, one count of robbery which interfered with interstate commerce, one count of attempted robbery which interfered with interstate commerce, two counts of using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence, and one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. The indictment alleges that Paris conspired with another to commit a gunpoint robbery of Bridesburg Pizza, located at 4776 Richmond Street, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on May 10, 2010. It is further alleged that Paris attempted to rob the Wawa convenience store located at 4371 Richmond Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on or about May 23, 2010. Paris is also charged with using and carrying a firearm during the crimes, and with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

If convicted of all counts, Paris faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, with a mandatory 32-year minimum sentence consecutive to any other sentence imposed, a $1,500,000 fine, five years’ supervised release, and a $600 special assessment.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Philadelphia Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski.
