Former Member of the Wilkes-Barre Area School District Board of Education Sentenced in Federal Court

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced today that Brian Dunn, age 47, of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today by Senior United States District Court Judge Richard P. Conaboy to 18 months’ imprisonment. Judge Conaboy further ordered that Dunn serve two years of supervised release and pay a $1,000 fine.
According to United States Attorney Peter J. Smith, Dunn was charged on October 26, 2009, with the corrupt receipt of a reward for official action. Dunn accepted a cash reward of $5,000 in connection with support provided by Dunn for the hiring of a prospective teacher while Dunn was acting in his official capacity as a member of the Wilkes-Barre Area School District Board of Education.
This case is part of an ongoing investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service, and the United States Department of Education and is being prosecuted by a team of federal prosecutors led by Senior Litigation Counsel Gordon Zubrod and includes Assistant U.S. Attorneys William Houser, Michael Consiglio, Amy Phillips, John Gurganus, and Criminal Division Chief Christian Fisanick.
