Philadelphia Man Charged for Role in Two Bank Robberies

Marvin Johnson, a/k/a “Purvis,” was charged today in a four-count Indictment with conspiracy to commit bank robbery, bank robbery, armed bank robbery, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of the armed bank robbery, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. The indictment specifically charges Johnson with acting as the getaway driver during the robberies of: (1) the Citizens Bank, located at 7248 Rising Sun Avenue in Philadelphia, on November 9, 2009; and (2) the PNC Bank, located at 8340 Germantown Pike in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 10, 2009. According to the indictment, the bank robbers escaped with a total of more than $5,000 as a result of these two robberies.

If convicted, defendant Marvin Johnson faces a maximum possible sentence of life imprisonment, a five-year mandatory minimum term of imprisonment, a $1 million fine, five years’ supervised release, and a $400 special assessment.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul G. Shapiro.
