Wrightsville Man Indicted for Multiple Armed Bank Robberies

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced today that a Wrightsville man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for multiple bank robberies.

Douglas E. Smuck, age 50, of Wrightsville, Pennsylvania, has been indicted for four York County bank robberies and related firearms offenses dating from December 2009, through August 2010. Smuck faces a maximum of life imprisonment and a fine of $1,250,000.

According to United States Attorney Peter J. Smith, on December 10, 2009, Smuck is accused of displaying a firearm during a robbery of the White Rose Credit Union in Red Lion, Pennsylvania. In the months that followed, Smuck is accused of similarly robbing Susquehanna Bank branches in Lower Windsor Township and Manchester Township. In addition, as a part of the continuing scheme, he was charged with using a firearm to rob an M & T Bank branch in Lancaster.

U.S. Attorney Smith note that this case resulted from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and numerous local law enforcement agencies including East Hempfield Township Police, Lower Windsor Township Police, Penn Township Police, and York Area Regional Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Consiglio.
