Philadelphia Felon Charged with Possessing Firearm

Tillman Byrd was charged today by Indictment with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. The indictment specifically charges that on or about July 8, 2010, Byrd, a previously convicted felon, possessed a 9mm semi-automatic firearm loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
This investigation and prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a joint initiative by the United States Attorney’s Office, the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute dangerous firearms offenders in federal court, where the defendants are likely to receive a substantial sentence upon conviction.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; and the Philadelphia Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ania Eve.
